Passive Purple: Tested & Certified

Passive Purple is one of the most thoroughly tested liquid airtight coatings on the market. It is verified to both North American (ASTM / ICC-ES) and European (EN) standards, and holds Passivhaus certification, BBA approval and a published Environmental Product Declaration — so it can be specified with confidence on projects anywhere in the world. Every result below comes from an independent, accredited laboratory.

Performance at a glance

Performance Result Tested to
Airtightness (air barrier material) 0.02 L/s·m² at 75 Pa ASTM E2178 · ICC-ES ESR-4715
Reaction to fire Class A to ASTM (Flame Spread 0; Smoke 55, Brush 0/35)  ·  Euroclass C to EN ASTM E84 · EN 13501-1
Solar reflectance SRI 52 — reflects ~45% of solar energy ASTM E1980
Radon barrier Independently certified Radon permeability certificate
Methane / ground-gas barrier Low methane permeability, verified ISO 15105
Mould resistance 10/10 — no defacement ASTM D3273 & ASTM G21
Adhesion (pull-off) CLT 1.83 N/mm², OSB 0.51 N/mm²; also tested on gypsum, red clay brick, steel & plaster EN ISO 4624
Tensile strength & elongation Flexible, crack-bridging — tested before & after ageing EN 12311-1
Heat release Cone calorimeter tested ASTM E1354
Environmental impact Published EPD (EPD-IntelligentMembranes-249-EN) EN 15804 / ISO 14025

Note: ASTM and EN grade reaction to fire on different scales — Passive Purple is Class A to ASTM E84 and Euroclass C to EN 13501-1. (The Passive Purple External grade carries a separate EN Fire Class B rating.)

Code compliance & certification

  • ICC-ES ESR-4715 — evaluated against the 2021/2018/2015 IBC, IRC and IECC (with a City of Los Angeles supplement).
  • Passivhaus certified — verified by the Passivhaus Institute for certified low-energy and Passivhaus buildings.
  • BBA approved — independent UK Agrément certification for building-control confidence.
  • Environmental Product Declaration — third-party verified life-cycle data to EN 15804.

Tested both sides of the Atlantic — suitable worldwide

Because Passive Purple is verified to both ASTM (North America) and EN (Europe) standards — alongside Passivhaus, BBA and a published EPD — specifiers can rely on one product and one evidence base wherever they build.

Independent testing by accredited laboratories including ICC-NTA, LLC; R&D Services, Inc.; the Belgian Building Research Institute (BBRI); the University of Liège Building Materials Laboratory; Mecadi GmbH; MicroStar Lab; and Kiwa-Ecobility Experts.
