Scenario 1: The "Missing Layer" Fix
A common problem in renovation is discovering that the previous builder skipped the Vapour Control Layer (VCL). The result? Moisture gets into your insulation, and heat gets out.
The Solution:
You don't need to demolish the wall. You can apply Passive Purple directly onto your existing painted plasterboard.- No Demolition: Save thousands by leaving the existing plasterboard in place.
- Seamless Seal: Roller or spray the Passive Purple over the wall and ceiling. It
creates a new, robust vapour control layer right on the surface. - Paintable Finish: Once the Passive Purple is dry (and turned purple/black), you can decorate directly over it.
- Option A: Paint it with your chosen emulsion.
- Option B: Skim over it.
- Option C: Wallpaper it.
-
Scenario 2: The Masonry Retrofit (Dot &Dab)
If you are stripping a room back to the bare brick or block, you need to seal the masonry before you put new plasterboard up.
The Challenge:
Passive Purple creates a smooth, rubber-like skin. Standard "Dot & Dab"
adhesive (drywall adhesive) struggles to stick to smooth surfaces. The Solution: The SuperGrip System
We have a simple 3-step system to ensure your plasterboard sticks like rock.
- Seal the Wall: Spray or roll Passive Purple directly onto the bare masonry/blockwork. This stops air leaking through the mortar joints.
- Prime for Grip: Once the Passive Purple is dry, apply Intelligent Membranes SuperGrip Primer. This adds a gritty, textured "key" to the surface.
- Dot & Dab: You can now apply your dabs of adhesive directly onto the SuperGrip layer and install your plasterboard with confidence.
Why Retrofit with Passive Purple?
- Stop the Drafts: Old brickwork is porous. By sealing the masonry, you stop cold air from permeating your home.
- Save Space: Traditional timber battens and membranes eat up floor space. Passive Purple is microns thick.
- Versatile Finishing: Whether you are painting over it or boarding over it, the product works with your renovation plans, not against them.
| Surface | Application Method | The Critical Step |
|---|---|---|
| Painted Plasterboard | Roller or Spray directly on top. |
Ensure surface is clean/grease-free. Decorate directly over it. |
| Bare Masonry | Spray or Brush. | Must use SuperGrip Primer before Dot & Dab. |
