Passive Purple: Tested & Certified

Passive Purple and the wider Intelligent Membranes range are among the most thoroughly tested liquid-applied coatings on the market — verified to both North American (ASTM / ICC-ES) and European (EN) standards, with Passivhaus certification, BBA and Kiwa approvals, European Technical Assessments and published Environmental Product Declarations. Every result below comes from an independent, accredited laboratory.

Passive Purple — performance at a glance

Performance Result Tested to
Indoor-air emissions French A+ — very low emissions (the cleanest band) EN 16516 (Normec)
Low-emission class Finnish M1 — free from VOCs & formaldehyde RTS / VTT
Air barrier material 0.02 L/s·m² at 75 Pa ASTM E2178 · ICC-ES ESR-4715
Airtightness — Passivhaus (incl. connections) Class A (phA) — 0.02 m³/h·m² at 50 Pa EN 12114 (Passive House Institute)
Reaction to fire Class A (ASTM, Flame Spread 0) · Euroclass C-s1,d0 (EN); B-s1,d0 with FRED ASTM E84 · EN 13501-1
Watertight PASS — seamless, no joints EN 14891
Vapour control Intelligent VCL — Sd ~0.8–40 m EN ISO 12572
Solar reflectance SRI 52 — reflects ~45% of solar energy ASTM E1980
Radon barrier Diffusion coefficient D = 3.3 × 10⁻¹² m²/s ISO/TS 11665-13
Methane / ground-gas barrier Low, verified permeability ISO 15105
Mould & fungal resistance 10/10 — no defacement; rating 0 (no growth) ASTM D3273 & ASTM G21
Adhesion (pull-off) Steel 2.7, CLT 1.83, gypsum 1.6, brick 1.5 N/mm² — the bond beats the substrate EN ISO 4624
Tensile strength & elongation Flexible & crack-bridging — ~219–350% elongation EN 12311-1
Environmental impact Published EPD — 2.38 kg CO₂e/m² (A1) EN 15804 / ISO 14025

Note: ASTM and EN grade reaction to fire on different scales — Passive Purple is Class A to ASTM E84 and Euroclass C-s1,d0 to EN 13501-1; the Passive Purple + FRED system reaches B-s1,d0. Airtight White is the same formulation as Passive Purple, so every result applies to it too.

Code compliance & certification

  • French A+ & Finnish M1 — the two leading European low-emission / indoor-air-quality credentials.
  • Passivhaus certified — Passive House Institute Class A airtightness (EN 12114).
  • ICC-ES ESR-4715 — evaluated against the 2021/2018/2015 IBC, IRC and IECC (with a City of Los Angeles supplement).
  • BBA approved — independent UK Agrément certification for building-control confidence.
  • Kiwa BDA Agrément (Passive Purple External) and European Technical Assessments ETA-23/0378 (Poseidon) and ETA-25/0471 (The GOAT).
  • Environmental Product Declarations — third-party verified life-cycle data to EN 15804.

The wider range — also independently tested

Passive Purple External — fire-rated Euroclass B-s1,d0 (EN 13501-1) and ASTM E84 Class A; watertight Class W1 (EN 13859-2) yet vapour-open (Sd ≈ 0.6 m); crack-bridging A3/A4; CO₂ barrier C1; UK Kiwa BDA Agrément; Passive House component (phB).

Poseidon (bathroom & wetroom waterproofing) — ETA-23/0378 (CE), watertight and crack-bridging to EN 14891, tile-adhesive bond retained after water, heat and chlorinated water; US ANSI A118.10 & A118.12; 25-year working life.

The GOAT (liquid roof & balcony waterproofing) — ETA-25/0471 (CE, 25-year working life), external fire BROOF(t1), watertight at 150 kPa, crack-bridging 1.15–1.84 mm, ~344% elongation, and an 83% solar-reflectance cool-roof white (SRI ~104).

Tested both sides of the Atlantic — suitable worldwide

Because the range is verified to both ASTM (North America) and EN (Europe) standards — alongside Passivhaus, BBA, Kiwa, ETAs and published EPDs — specifiers can rely on one product family and one evidence base wherever they build.

Independent testing by accredited laboratories including ICC-NTA, LLC; Intertek; R&D Services, Inc.; the Belgian Building Research Institute (BBRI / Buildwise); the University of Liège Building Materials Laboratory; Ghent University; the Czech Technical University in Prague; Mecadi GmbH; MicroStar Lab; PAVUS; Warringtonfire; Normec; VTT; ETA-Danmark; Kiwa and Kiwa-Ecobility Experts.
