What is The GOAT Waterproofing Membrane?
Unlike bituminous and torch-on membranes, The GOAT is a liquid-applied flat roof waterproofing membrane that conforms to any surface profile — including upstands, penetrations, drainage outlets and complex details — with no overlaps, laps or joints to fail. It can be applied by brush or roller, works on damp substrates, and requires no primer on most surfaces.
The GOAT holds a European Technical Assessment (ETA) and has been tested for external fire performance, making it suitable for specification on a wide range of residential and commercial projects across the UK.

Standard waterproofing paints and coatings require dry surfaces and temperatures of 5°C or above. The GOAT applies at 0°C on damp substrates — making it usable year-round on UK sites where weather windows are unpredictable.
Positive & Negative Water Pressure
The GOAT resists both positive water pressure (water pushing from the outside in) and negative water pressure (water pushing from the inside out) — making it effective on foundations, retaining walls and exposed slab soffits as well as flat roofs.

The white finish of White GOAT makes surface inspection significantly easier. Cracks, defects, ponding and debris are far more visible on a white membrane than on a black or grey finish, enabling proactive maintenance and early intervention.

How to Apply The GOAT Flat Roof Waterproofing Membrane
The GOAT is designed for straightforward application by any competent contractor or confident self-builder. No specialist equipment is required for brush or roller application.
- Prepare the substrateRemove loose material, debris, standing water (The GOAT can be applied damp — not pooled). Repair any structural cracks above 5mm before application. Degrease metal substrates if required.
- Apply The GOAT Liquid Grommet at penetrationsBefore the main field coat, use The GOAT Liquid Grommet around pipe penetrations, drainage outlets, upstands and any complex details. This ensures full seal at the most vulnerable points.
- Apply the first coat by brush or rollerApply The GOAT by brush or roller across the full surface area at the specified rate. Work from the lowest drainage point upward and into upstands and details. Allow to dry.
- Apply the second coatApply the second coat perpendicular to the first to ensure even coverage and eliminate any missed spots. Total consumption should be approximately 2kg per m² across both coats.
- Inspect and allow to fully cureVisually inspect the finished membrane — the white finish of White GOAT makes this significantly easier. Ensure all areas have consistent coverage before the membrane is exposed to traffic or loaded.
Note: Do not clean equipment with water. Use The GOAT Cleaner for tool cleaning.

Yes — this is one of The GOAT's key advantages over competing flat roof waterproofing products. It can be applied directly to damp (not pooled) substrates at temperatures as low as 0°C. This makes it practical for year-round use on UK roofing sites where dry conditions cannot always be guaranteed.
The GOAT adheres to concrete, concrete blocks and bricks, plastics, metals (PP, PE, PVC-U) and roofing insulation boards (PUR, PIR, XPS and EPS) — without primer on most surfaces. This covers the full range of substrates found on UK flat roofs and terraces.
The coverage rate is 2kg per m² applied in two coats. An 18kg bucket covers approximately 9m². A 7.5kg bucket covers approximately 3.75m². For large roof areas, contact us to discuss bulk pricing.

Black, White and Grey. For solar reflective cool roof applications, the White GOAT is recommended — it delivers the highest albedo value and greatest surface temperature reduction. Grey provides an intermediate option for projects where white is not aesthetically preferred.
No primer is required on most substrates including concrete, masonry, insulation boards and most plastics. On some smooth or very dense surfaces a test area is recommended before full application. Contact our technical team if you are unsure.
